April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month
In honor of April being the Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, I started a fundraising page to support RAINN.
RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization. RAINN created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800.656.HOPE, online.rainn.org & rainn.org/es) in partnership with more than 1,000 local sexual assault service providers across the country and operates the DoD Safe Helpline for the Department of Defense.
A few months ago, I bared my soul to the world through my #StoryofStrength… my personal story of overcoming my past childhood trauma and going through my own healing journey. You can read the full story here. Through the roller coaster of emotions, I am extremely grateful for all the immense amount of love and support from family, friends and even strangers. I believe that it is part of my life’s mission to speak up and speak out about this issue that often gets swept under the rug, especially under certain cultural and societal pressures.
Sexual assault and abuse is not just a women’s issue, but an issue that needs to be discussed amongst men, women, children, young and old, regardless of race or religion. This fundraiser is to support an amazing organization that works tirelessly to help victims and survivors, the people who need it most, but are often the first to be criticized and judged. You can learn more about supporting this cause and spreading awareness using RAINN’s social media campaign graphics HERE.
Current figures suggest that 1 in 6 women and 1 in 33 men will become a victim of sexual assault in his or her lifetime. I think about the men, women and children I care about — and I’m driven to take action. RAINN has helped me realize that there’s something I can do — something we can all do, to affect change.
Ending sexual violence is a cause worth fighting for, and RAINN is an organization worth believing in. RAINN has helped more than 2 million survivors through the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800.656.HOPE and online.rainn.org) and they work every day to shine light on the issue, and to ensure justice for survivors.
With your help, however big or small, we will make an impact. Just $10, the price of one lunch, will help one survivor to take the first step toward reclaiming his or her life.
Please support me today and together, we can make a difference. 92¢ of every dollar will go directly to RAINN’s programs to help survivors, educate the public and improve sexual assault laws and policies.
Thank you for your support and for spreading awareness.
